How does fractional laser resurfacing work?
Fractional treatment delivers laser energy in a pattern of tiny treatment points, leaving areas of skin between them untreated. This allows us to treat selected areas while the surrounding skin supports recovery.
The laser delivers very short pulses of energy. The fractional handpiece changes how that energy is distributed across your skin.
Depending on the treatment settings and suitability, the aim may be to improve uneven texture, soften fine lines or address selected pigmentation concerns.
Pigmentation needs its own assessment. Sun spots, melasma and marks left after inflammation can look similar but need different approaches. I’ll assess what we’re treating before recommending laser, including whether medical review is needed.
Your treatment plan will reflect the concern, your skin type and how your skin responds. Results develop gradually, and more than one appointment may be needed.

At your consultation, I’ll consider your skin type, recent sun exposure, current skincare, medications and treatment history. We’ll also discuss the preparation and recovery involved.

What can I expect during my treatment?
Your appointment includes skin preparation, fractional laser treatment and aftercare guidance tailored to the area and concern we’re treating.
Before starting, I’ll check your skin and confirm any changes to your medications, skincare or sun exposure since your consultation. We’ll discuss the expected sensations and comfort options, and you’ll wear protective eyewear during treatment.
You may feel brief prickling, snapping or warmth as the laser passes over your skin. Sensations vary with the handpiece, settings and treatment area. I’ll check in throughout, and you can ask me to pause.
Your skin may look red or feel sensitive afterwards. I’ll explain the recovery expected for your treatment, including any changes in texture or pigmentation to watch for.
Before you leave, we’ll go through what to use at home, what to pause and how to protect your skin from the sun. You’ll also know when to contact me if something isn’t settling as expected.
